New Release — Refusing to Live in Black & White

My son was enrolled in a children’s theatre workshop at the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Mandi House, one summer.

I needed somewhere to work while I waited for him each day. I carried a red table back and forth for a few days, until I finally asked if I could simply leave it there instead. Nobody made it complicated. Nobody asked me to explain myself. They just said yes.

I still have that table at home. We still use it.

What I actually want to thank them for is not just the table itself. It is the ease with which they made room for me, a stranger with a laptop and a child in rehearsal, asking for something in the middle of their own busy season. I do not think they knew, at the time, what that yes meant to someone who was rebuilding her life, one tiny step at a time.

Dear Staff of SRCPA,

Thank you for the space you gave me that season, without conditions, and without needing to know why I needed it.

You gave a tired, grieving woman somewhere to simply work, in peace, while her son found his footing on your stage.

That kindness has stayed with me for years.

With warmth and gratitude,
Shaweta
